New-look Executive

Two new appointments were made at the June Executive meeting. Wayne Christie, who continues to lead the Race Commission, has been appointed vice-president for a one-year term, while Janet Phipps has been invited to fill Wayne’s position on the board.

“I am sure both will make important contributions in their respective roles to the development of the sport,” said MSNZ president Shayne Harris.

“We were faced with an unusual situation last year when one vice-president resigned and one was up for re-election this year.

“It was agreed that to maintain the rotating election policy, a new VP would be appointed for one year and the position would be up for election next year. Janet has been appointed to a two-year term.”

Janet, a licensed steward, is a newcomer to the national scene having been very active in the Waikato region. She is a life member of the Hamilton Car Club.

“I’m really happy about my appointment to the Motorsport Executive and am looking forward to serving our sport in this new role,” Janet said.

“It’s a good time for motorsport in New Zealand, with a new president there will be changes no doubt. I’m especially excited about the initiatives within the Safety and Training Commission. They are going to give all our officials notable skills, which they can be recognised for.”

Jane Black was the last female Executive member, more than ten years ago.
