Bottled Water Horror Stories
Drinking Bottled Water Can Change Your Life and the Lives of Others... For Worse
Last week I had the privelage of attending the International Conference for Bottled Water Oppositon. Never before had I heard such surprising and alarming stories about bottled water.
If you have Sky TV, you may have caught the special coverage on ABC News of a community in Myanmar struggling to live with the fumes of burning plastic from the hoards of water bottles dumped nearby to be processed. A representative from the community was at the conference and shared a moving slideshow of the damage over time to the health of her community. Multiple lung cancer cases have been identified, and others have sever respiratory illnesses that affect their everday life. Children are being affected at younger and younger ages and are now unable to care for their terminally ill parents who can no longer provide for them.
Another conference attendee spoke about their own health as a result of drinking bottled water."Nobody told me that drinking from the same bottle over and over could result in the plastic particles breaking down and entering the water I was drinking. I have enormous medical bills now as the slow but steady entry of plastic into my system has poisoned me over the last year. I will never be the same," shared 23 year old Drew.
32 year old Madeline had a similar story, and she demonstrated her point on stage. Running hot water over a plastic water bottle, we saw nothing happen. When she instead used boiling water, the bottle melted and distorted in shape, blistering and disintegrating almost instantly. "Though you may not see anything dramatic when you run hot water over the bottle, it is having the same effect as the boiling water, but on a slower scale. Tiny portions of the bottle wear away with each rinse or wash of the bottle, and leave residue that is caught up in the next lot of water you put in the bottle and ultimately, put into your body."
