DNA of an Effective Board

A full day course for individuals planning to become Directors/Trustees, or Directors/Trustees of Boards, shareholders and anyone who wants to know more about how Boards can operate more effectively.

Course Overview

This course highlights determinants of effective Boards by illustrating how boardroom behaviours and the processes in great Boards operate quite differently from those less effective ones.

Learning Objectives

To gain an in-depth appreciation of the differing aspects of governance and how they can impact of board performance and the determinants of a highly effective board compared with in an ineffective board.

Course Outline

  • Identifying the five key roles that interact in the boardroom
  • Knowing what constitutes the role of a director or trustee
  • Appreciating why a chair and CEO should be working complimentary
  • Recognising the characteristics of a good Chief Executive
  • Comparing good decision-making process against poor process
  • Identifying the warnings signs and being able to take corrective action
  • Understanding what constitutes a good board paper – both in structure and prior testing.

 Course Format

This session will incorporate a mix of information sharing and group work with no more than 20 attendees working together. Course material will be made available for those attending the session.
