Common Sense Governance

An evening workshop for individuals planning to become members of a Board or Trustee, or existing Trustees of Boards, Shareholders, Stakeholders and anyone who wants to know more about how boards can operate more effectively.

Course Overview

Understanding governance demands not only knowledge of board obligations but it also involves the practical application to ensure sound practices and processes are in place. It differs significantly from Management and therefore management practices do not automatic translate into governance best practice.

By adopting an overseeing perspective, Boards of Trustees need to turn their attention to ensuring the board is carrying out its fiduciary duties to its stakeholders, the organisation is strategically focused and risk is recognised and managed.

Learning Objectives

Attendees will gain a greater appreciation of the working and purpose of boards and particularly how the Boards of Directors/Trustees tasks complement, not duplicate, the work carried out by management.
