About the Wellington Palestine Group

The Wellington Palestine Group was founded just before the first major Israeli invasion of Lebanon in 1982 by a group of supporters of the Palestinian cause. It's prime aim over the years has been to present the Palestinian case to the public in New Zealand, in an attempt to counter the overwhelming barrage of Israeli propaganda in our news media. The Palestine Group has also raised thousands of dollars in assistance for Palestinians, inside and outside the Occupied Territories, mostly for the Union of Palestinian Medical Relief Committees.

The Group has organised a number of visiting overseas speakers, arranged forums and film screenings and picketed Israeli promotions - especially the Israeli embassy when there was one in Wellington.

Group membership is available to anyone sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, New Zealanders, Moslems, Jews, Arabs and Palestinians. A committee is elected at AGMs but committee meetings are freely open to members to contribute.

The WPG works closely with the Auckland Palestine Human Rights Campaign.
