About GE Free New Zealand

What we do:

GE Free NZGE-Free New Zealand in food & environment is a non-profit organisation with branches in the Kapiti Coast, Dunedin, Christchurch, Nelson, Wellington, Hawkes Bay, Taupo and Auckland.

We use our resources to promote making the NZ environment & food FREE of Genetically Engineered [GE] organisms.

Our activities include:

  • Regular Newsletter which includes the newest information about developments concerning Genetic Engineering - local - national - international.
  • Attending regular meetings with Governmental organisations.
  • Monitoring applications for GE-crops or foods in New Zealand.
  • Writing and presenting submissions on the effects of genetically engineered organisms (GEO'S) on behalf of our members
  • Speaking to submissions at hearings run by the Environmental Risk Management Authority (ERMA) and New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA)
  • Providing information to assist major food producers to label/go GE-free.
  • Providing and seeking information on the state of genetic engineering in New Zealand.
  • Providing a valuable information resource to member & the public (e.g. website, info for public libraries, public meetings, public awareness activities)
